The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
