Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
